I have over 30 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological disorders. I worked for about fifteen years in psychiatric hospitals and units in Christchurch and Auckland, and I have also worked in a variety of specialist units including the Alcohol Counselling Centre, the Princess Margaret Hospital (Ward C Day Programme, Eating Disorders Unit, Anxiety Disorders Unit, Mothers and Babies Unit), Christchurch Hospital (Child and Family Unit) and the Child, Adolescent and Family Service in Christchurch. When I set up in private practice I developed my skills further in the areas of parenting, care and protection of children, and couple or family relationships and I have now had 15 years of experience in providing counselling for parents and couples referred by the Family Court and in providing specialist reports for the Family Court and the Child, Youth and Family Service. At that time I also developed my interests further in the area of stress and trauma and I provide Counselling and Psychological Services to ACC and to a number of local work places and businesses. I have a special interest in Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and use these techniques frequently in my practice.
I am a Clinical Psychologist (registered in the Clinical scope of practice with the New Zealand Psychologists Board), having obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology from the University of Canterbury. I am currently a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NZCCP) and have served on Psychologist Board committees to investigate complaints against Psychologists. I am currently a committee member (and am a past Secretary) of the Christchurch branch of the Family Courts Association of New Zealand. I am a founding member of Psychology Associates.
